Outdoor location options for your session

Forest sessions

The forest is a lovely outdoor choice for your session and it is conveniently located in Highbury. Every season it looks a little different but its always beautiful and natural, with lots of options for photography.

The great thing about this location is that its quite protected from wind and full sun so the option to photograph at more times of the day are open to us

It’s really important to dress for the location and the weather, if its going to be cold, then warm clothes and closed in shoes would be appropriate and more comfortable than open shoes and summer clothes.

If your family loves being outdoors in nature, looking for natural treasures like pine cones and wild flowers then I can highly recommend this location for your session.

Linear park sessions

Linear Park is another beautiful location in Highbury, and I have number of favourite spots to use in this portion of the park. Linear park is a little more manicured than the forest with open grassed areas that follow the length of the creek with bridges and old stone walls, and duck ponds, this opens up new options for photography, with the optimum time for sessions either at sunset or in the morning.

It’s really important to dress for the location and the weather, if its going to be cold, then warm clothes and closed in shoes would be appropriate and more comfortable than open shoes and summer clothes.

I am sometimes asked if I can do the session in a playground, and my answer to this is no, unfortunately if there is swing or a slide or something to climb, then thats what your child will want to do. Its near impossible to get good images of child that wont sit and interact with me and the camera, so If you want professional quality images from your session then I can highly recommend these locations and you can always visit the playgrounds close by after the session is completed.

Botanical garden sessions

The Adelaide botanical gardens and botanic park are spectacular locations to use for your session. I can highly recommend this spot if you want a series of different locations that are very close to each other. The timing for this session has to fall into the opening times for the gardens and also around festivals and events that regularly occur through the year in the city.

I highly recommend dressing for the season, making sure that you and your children are dressed for the weather on the day of the session, if you child’s is cold then its very difficult to get images of them being carefree and happy in the environment.

Seasonally the gardens will look different as it changes with the seasons, so the options here are endless and ever changing.

In summer I recommend photographing in the morning or late afternoon at this location as the midday sun light at this location in summer will be too harsh and unflattering.

Sunset Beach sessions

Beach sessions are a lovely option through spring, summer and autumn when the weather is suitable.

The timing for the session that I recommend is the hour before sunset and so this will change throughout daylight savings.

The one thing I have found about photographing on the beach is you never know how windy and cool its going to be until you get there and so I aways recommend bringing an extra layer of clothes or a pretty blanket that will be suitable for the session.

Because this session sometimes falls around young ones bed times and meal times its advisable to bring snacks that are easy to eat and not sticky or going to stain clothes, and possibly adjust nap times so that they are not too grumpy during the session.
